Brainstorming Overview:
My teammates and I have contemplated the different approaches we would take towards how we want to represent our music video. The lyrics held our interest the most, giving us a similar insight into how we want to depict our artist and brand in correspondence to the video. It gave the artist an identity with a soulful and inspirational outlook. As we individually described the scenes, we all shared a storytelling method. We combined our ideas and led with that.
Bluegrass was the music genre that we coincidentally came across. We were distraught with the genre because we were unfamiliar with the concept. As we researched, we understood the uniqueness and tried to use that to our advantage. "Beg Steal And Borrow" provided a reminiscing but futuristic tone. We felt that our artist takes inspiration from life and incorporates it into music to drive people. Then, we divided the concept into mise-en elements regarding colors, costumes, and symbolic tangible items in the music videos. For instance, warm hues and vintage illustrations can create a comforting response from the audience about our artist's work.
As the project progressed, each individual was in charge of a portion of representing the artist and the company's brand. We shared our ideas and worked on strategies to gain a new audience and maintain former audiences engaged since Bluegrass is not quite popular. By condensing the old and the new, we thought we could modernize the genre and use it to make audiences relate. Social Media is another factor that can help bring in new viewers. TikTok became famous for promoting the music industry, even past musical productions. TikTok edits can romanticize scenes, so we can mold our storytelling concepts to fit just that. The idea will help locate a younger audience and create trends.
The video itself went through variations to fit a simple outlook of a woman going through present life routinely. She thinks about the past, but there are also effects of change and grasp on the emotions she is feeling. The editing is a selection of pans and tilts to correspond to life. The actors develop an emotional response and tell the story through actions.
The development process of creating an image for this artist in terms of an identity and a video took us various times to get the story to where we would like it to be. We needed to concentrate on making it as simplistic as possible, but the idea and story make up for it.
