YAY

 DONE

Happy Happy thoughts!!!

I can't believe today I was able to finish my CCR's and my Film. I feel super relieved and excited :)))

Thank you for this opportunity.

It was fun and chaotic, I stressed a lot but its done and I am happy with the result.

The CCR's were a bit difficult, I kept running out of breathe but I managed and I hope Cambridge enjoys what I made because I tried to add somethings I love into it. πŸ’—πŸ’—πŸ’—

Updates

 Hi :0

https://www.istockphoto.com/photos/almost-out-of-time

It is almost time! I rewatched the video but I felt that the audio was a bit low so I readjusted the sounds. Everything seems alright and I can't wait to show the end result. I am currently working on my creative reflection response.

I already finished with my first medium and I am finishing up my second.

I wanted to make one visually entertaining and another verbally engaging. So lets see how they turn out but so far it is a relaxing process. I am using Capcut to edit like how I used that to edit my film. ✌Funny thing, I keep getting Capcut editing hacks on my Instagram, AFTER I FINISHED EDITING, which shows how scary the media is πŸ˜… I can't wait till we learn all about it in AICE Media. This directing experience was surely intriguing and I plan to talk all about it in my CCR, so stay tuned....

Finishing Touches

Finishing Touches πŸ˜ŽπŸ‘‰

Hey Besties!! πŸ’“πŸ’“πŸ’“πŸ’“

I am feeling so much better with the outcome of this film. I must say that this is one of my proudest achievements. From every detail, every morning there is an addition or change to the video and I feel like I can finally say I am completely satisfied. I didn't think I was up to the task or I could present quality work, but I am proud of my own efforts so I am glad to say I will give myself a pat on the back. No matter what anyone says, I feel like I was able to reach somewhere and it is definitely making me anticipate where this film would be going after the opening scene. πŸ˜‚ SO much drama! I had this one idea but after trying it, it wasn't working and I feel like I can live without it. For the mornings when I kept adding and adding clips or changes, I always felt a missing piece, but I am very satisfied this morning and calm. What a change right? It is probably the weekend-long nap I got, those do you wonders. Anyway, enough about me, let's get on to what happened and why I made the decisions I made.

First things first...

Audio

In terms of dialogue, there is none. So I had to do a lot of show than tell. A difficult task! But, I think I was able to show an idea of the content after the few segments I had inserted: the divorcement papers, the picture frames, the close-up shots of the facial expressions, and the extreme close-ups of the movement. So, when I had initially planned to make this film, I wanted to insert dramatic music as I showed the story. BUT... there were soooo many challenges. I had failed to realize that since the music requirement was no copyright, most of the music I found did not fit the scenarios, especially since the mood shifts from before the door scene and after the door scene. After digging and digging, these were a couple of the sites I came across.

Then I lost all hope... It was depressing really, 😭😭😭 So I consulted my family. First, I asked my cousin who played the guitar, very much pleaded for help. I think he didn't want to, so I turned to my sisters. One of them came across a very trustworthy viable source: TikTok FYP. Listen, I don't wanna lose you there, hear me out. She didn't get the song from there, BUT she came across a video from another website of copyright-free music. She had found the song πŸ‘πŸ’— I was entirely thrilled.

These were the three websites listed and we started exploring for music.

The song we came across was called Limbo (feat. ELLIOT) by Floatinurboat Elliot. It had lyrics, so I looked for the instrumental version. The reason is because I didn't want it to seem like a music video more than a film video. Another huge problem I had felt like I came across. So that is when I realized that even if dialogue would not be necessary, background sounds might be. So that is what I added.

Background Noises

Sound Effects

Bird/Nature noises

Camera Flash ( The main thing I forgot to discuss: The whole birthday scene can be thought to be recorded... So it is as if Grace is looking back at these videos of her celebrating with her family... So after we find out about James and Lynda's weird connection vibe, you see a foreshadow of the photo frames being tossed into the box to throw away. The transition from the birthday scene and the box is followed by the sound of the camera flash when Nana fixes the camera and gets everyone ready for the picture. BUT WHY IS LYNDA IN THE FAMILY PHOTO??? Mary looks over to her shoulder and senses the vibe of Lynda and James. That's why we see that transition)

Foley Sound of the shoe (stepping)

I extracted the sounds below from the video and edited them to naturally flow with the video.

Happy Birthday Music

Dialogue (Nana saying "Come")

Last Scene

This part is the most important and shortest scene in the whole segment. I added this because I felt that it was missing. I needed to create that continuation feeling. After we see the transition from the family photo to the family frame, the music stops and we hear natural sounds. This gives room for dialogue and possible scenes. It also cuts. The cutaway at the end where it says 8 years later provides the chance for the opening scene to continue into the film story.

So what is this scene?

This scene is when Grace (future Grace/ 8 years after her birthday) is out running. She is leaving the house. The foley sound creates that swoosh sound and you hear the natural wind in the background. Then it blacks out (creating a dun vibe) What will happen next? Who was running? Who is this character?

HEHEHHEHEHEHHEHEH SEE WHAT I DID THERE 😁😁😁

Editing

Editing- 3

Hey Besties!!

This morning I was somehow awaken with energy, so I thought the best way to use that is to finish my editing once and for all!!!! For only a couple hours I had put into it, I managed to actually finish the final product. CRAZY. There were definitely changes and additions, so lemme tell you :)

I really felt like something was missing and thought DIVORCE PAPERS! So of course I went ahead printed the page, wrote in false information about Mary and James and filmed it…

Here is a copy:

That was fun and a great idea, it really added to the concept. It can provide foreshadowing towards the films main idea.

For the other additions:

Title (Never Again)

What did I do?

I wanted to be creative and I felt that the title needed its own time to shine. How did I make the title so unique, I added a clip of the rings falling in the background. I knew it was going to be a challenge, but why not? I went to CANVA and choose a white background. For the ring video, there is this feature to remove the background. I knew it was not going to be entirely clear, so I decided to change the color by playing with the light and tint, so it’s hardly noticeable. For the title, I added an animation to evoke emotional response.

Credits

 ——> I added Credits!

Lastly..

Rather than video effects, I used a Black Fade transition from one shot to another. It just helped flow the scenes more naturally. I added a video of the outside to identify setting (maybe outside divorce courtroom) since I show the outside scene after showing the divorced papers.

I used the cinematic feature on my IPhone to film these last minute shots and Lowkey they turned out nice!!! Proud πŸ’ͺ😌

OH ALSO, I removed the cake scene because I did not want to focus on the birthday scene as much because I wanted room to grow for the story to continue with new info and the opening scene focuses on the main idea.

MEME TIME :)

Editing

Editing- 2

Hey Besties!

Welcome to the continuation of my editing process. I will be focusing on the birthday event and showcasing the rising tension as James introduces Lyndaaaaaaaa to the scene. πŸ‘€πŸ

From the last time I left off, it was the transition cake scene. Now I am adding the beginning where everything seems fine and the parents are singing their kid a happy birthday party.

They sing Happy Birthday, and they pop the small confetti and gifts. As Mary is engaged, James is definitely not. You see it based on James's actions. His constantly looking at the door and the watch while showing constant delayed responses when celebrating his daughter is highlighted in the editing and close-up shots.

JAMES SUSPICIOUS

So after a couple cut scenes of them interacting, we gotta concentrate on James. James keeps looking at his watch, so I had to emphasize that with an extreme close up shot. What is he waiting for?

DOUBLE SIDE EYE

I found this part funny because my little cousin also looked at James (her dad) when he abruptly left the scene to open the door. It just shows that even the daughter is bothered by it or curious. The dad was finally trying to do something close with his daughter and give her the birthday gift (his way of showing love without having his wife asking him to do anything). BUT! After hearing the door (which was indicated when they all looked the same direction), he placed the gift on the table without thought, and moved behind Mary. I showed the abruptness when I did another extra close up on the gift slammed on the table.

TENSION

I found a lot of mistakes during this shoot, but I made it work by focusing on a few aspects. When James greets Lynda, there is definitely chemistry through their interaction. I told my cousin to fake her way talking through their interaction, but that feels a bit awkward on the video, so I decided to cut those parts out and only take the section where James hugs Lynda in a very close manner than what is supposed to be a normal neighbor to neighbor behavior. It didn't seem like they were trying to hide it, but James will definitely try to sugarcoat the behavior into it being "normal" and him being "nice" later in the movie. As Lynda approaches Grace, she gives her the gift, but you can see that Grace gets a bad vibe from Lynda. Typically, when children sense irregular behavior, they remain a distance and look towards their parents for help. Grace looks to the back, signaling her mom to come, and Lynda (being the fake person she is) does not notice these signals (because she is being only nice to Grace because of her liking with James which is a common cliche with being the other woman). So, for this scene, close ups close ups close ups is my key approach to emphasize such behavior. I used a close up for Grace's face when she was looking back to her mom, when she was receiving the gift, and when Lynda/Mary where shaking hands. Also, when Mary shows up into the screen, she holds Grace with her left hand to pull away from Lynda (mother protective nature).

Anyway, this is all for today. Panic! Panicking! I need more, I know I can add more, but I don't want to ruin it, so I will take a break. Continue finishing it tomorrow, but there is definitely story-building! I will update you!

LOVING THE DRAMA HEHE!

Editing

 Editing- 1

Hey Besties!

After directing and filming my opening scene, it is time for the most crucial part of this process: editing! We have learned editing techniques before and I had addressed it in previous postings, but now is the time to apply it. Approaching what editing techniques to use might change the way a story is told, so I want to make sure I can use it as advantage for any mistakes I need to cover up or tell the story effectively so that I can highlight important aspects of the story. Since this is a dramatic film, viewers need to understand the character tension between the distant parents and the relationship with James and Lynda.

—------
>I had already mentioned Capcut, the app that I will be using to edit. I definitely feel comfortable with the features and I have used Capcut for previous editing videos.

When I started editing the first part, so so sooo many good shoots had to be sacrificed. I don’t mean the others weren’t good, but the quality of photos differ. So I felt like I had to remove some pictures I took of the rings to maintain the flow of the images. I am using stop motion for the rings rather than the cake. This replaces the playful effect with a suspenseful one. The difference between the ring pictures was lightening and most of the pictures were either light or dim. I choose dimmed lightening for the dramatic effect and because I took the shoots more smoothly when moving the camera.

After choosing the clips, I assembled them in a way that when the camera angles change, the movement of the camera is smooth. I decided to use the blur effect from the first shot and reduce it as the shoots move to noise from the picture as well as provide context to why the rings are shown in an uncomfortablemanner than a content one. This might reveal the impression of uncertainty and tension about the people who own these rings or an event that causes these rings to be depicted in such a manner.

Each clip is about 3 to 4 seconds long to create a steady pace for the stop motion. The pacing allows the viewers to delve into the vibe as they focus on the movement and lighting.

Then I applied a filter on the ring clips called High Saturation. This helps the dim lighting not make the object itself look washed out. It creates a vivid and intense feeling towards the rings, which helps with highlighting the importance of its symbolism.

When transitioning to the next scene, the family photo frames, I used a black fade out then a black fade in. This technique helps me move on into another element that foreshadows what the story is about to explore. Since the photo frames are meant to help transition into the birthday party scene, the camera moves accordingly from the kid to the family to the mom and her child. The reason it stops there is to show the mom and her child alone without the dad, indicating that he is left out of the picture because of his actions and the event of the couple separating later in the film.

After the viewers see the last photo frame, the camera zooms in on the cake to clear out the idea of the frames and move on to the action scene of what happened. After hooking on the audience with the music I will be choosing, the music will change so that when we zoom in on the cake and travel back to the birthday event, it creates a different atmosphere where it begins to tell the story. It will be a straight cutaway to the scene as if it is a back to reality kind of sense, if that makes sense πŸ˜…

That’s it for now, I will continue editing and update ya’ll on my next moves!

Shooting Day

Ready!? Set, Action!πŸ“½πŸŽž

So professional teehee. πŸ’—πŸ’«

Film Opening Day

Hey Besties!! Let me share with you about my day prepping for the shoot:

LOOK AT THAT CONCENTRATION----------->

Lol! Anyway, before I bore you about the events of the shoot, I wanted to share my overall experience. Since I brought my family as actors, it was quite interesting πŸ˜…Everyone was so involved, and it was nice to have all that support and ideas. Speaking of ideas, directors are underestimated for their contribution. It was so hard to keep an open mind during a shoot because I wanted to stick with the storyboard so I wouldn't forget anything. Everyone wanted to be a director and I was like it's my film guys. 😭😭😭 But then I realized that some of the ideas were actually beneficial. Yes, it is important to set boundaries and stick to the shots, but I did want to overshoot in case I didn't have enough material. So I listened and did multiple variations of the shots, which turned out great. WE DID A SIX HOUR SHOOT! Most to none of us had breakfast...πŸ˜“ We were immersed in the film, making sure we had at least one video we were all in agreeance with. I believe the person who had the most fun was my younger cousin because she got a fake birthday for the day.πŸ˜‚After we were done, we all went out to Chilis and got a fat nap when we went home. I think that was the fun part, celebrating and rewarding our achievements. There was definitely arguing and laughing, but most importantly, we were creating a story.

Film Opening Day: Process

Before I started, I explained to each individual the plan. I talked about their characters and their style options. For Lynda, my character my cousin was playing, I told her I needed to make a few touchups for makeup. If she were to be Lynda, she would have come to the party like red lipstick to leave a bold impression on viewers. Then, I went ahead with the storyboard, discussing the steps and movement with it.

Then I started adjusting the camera and the placement to showcase everything. I practiced the movements before each shot. There were frequent times I had to zoom in and out, but it became blurry. I would dim the lighting and readjust the focus to fit the zoom. At first, I choose to prioritize taking the pictures of the rings and the family photo for the frames.

----> For the ring pictures, I used a white sheet of paper and placed the rings at different angles. I took numerous shots moving diagonally: downwards and upwards. This was my favorite part because it made me feel professional.

The picture on the right is the family picture--->

I wanted to showcase the cheating through action, so I highlighted James and Lynda's hands close to each other with a flashlight from my phone hidden behind the balloon.

Then I made another image where Mary looks directly at the hand so that I can bring the viewer's attention to what she is looking at. The fact that Mary is starring at the hand, shows women's instinct, which introduces to the viewers a characteristic about Mary.

I wanted to show Mary's relationship with Grace through a photo, so when I frame it, it shows their bond.
I needed to put an individual picture for Grace, to showcase how parents always frame their child in their home.
In terms of lighting, I switched from warm to cool tones. At first, I started with the warm tones of the family together, dancing and having a good time. Then the cool tone begins when Lynda comes to the scene, intervening in Mary's family picture.

Film Opening Day: Finish

By the end of the day, I had accumulated over 300 photos/videos. It was indeed a tiring and stressful process, but we got cake and Chilis, so that is all that matters. I enjoyed making something into reality. Some things did not come into what I had originally envisioned, but there were definitely some shots that were better than I had imagined. I had started this project thinking it was hopeless, but with the support and efforts, I truly believe it is a winner in comparison to other videos I have tried to create in past projects. I was allowed to use technology I would have never been able to access if it weren't for this project and I definitely want to practice.

Thank you lovelies for being my actors when no one else would πŸ’•You guys really outdid yourselves with the support and drama that this film needed!
